East Coast America Trip | Top 5 Foods to Discover

Food is a huge part of American culture and life: It brings together a diverse population, who bond over hot dogs on the grandstands of baseball parks or late night slices of pizza on the streets of Manhattan. We thought it would be fun to take a culinary adventure on the East Coast, following the route of The Coyote Trip’s adventure tour and tasting the top 5 must-try foods along the way. These culinary delights form a part of our East Coast America trip and you can enjoy them all whilst taking in the famous cities and natural splendour of the region.

New York: “Pick up a slice”

Our tour starts in the Big Apple, a hectic city where often the only thing the city’s folk have time for is a slice of pizza on the run, or simply “a slice”, as any New Yorker worth their oregano would call it. Head over to Joe’s Pizza on Broadway, a firm local favorite for a slice of the good stuff.

Cape Cod: Lobster Rolls

The last destination on our East Coast Adventure is Cape Cod, where we like to leave the best for last. Life doesn’t get much better than sitting in the sun on the tables made up along the pier in Provincetown, where fresh lobsters are regularly landed by the small fleet of fishing boats here. Smells of melted butter waft through the sea air as your server brings over your rolls. As you devour it, you’ll think over the culinary adventure your taste buds have been on in the last week with the Coyote Trip.

Washington DC: “Hat Dawgs… Hat Dawgs!”

Perhaps the most valuable players of the major-league baseball parks are the vendors who walk up and down the terraces selling these legendary dogs. We head to DC straight from NYC and the baseball team here, the Washington Nationals, are unique in creating different variations of dogs to welcome whichever team is visiting, even serving up a special Philly Cheesesteak Dog when the Phillies are in town, which leads us nicely to our next destination…

Philadelphia: Philly Cheesesteaks

This one does divide the opinion of the team in our Boston office: some just can’t get enough of the gooey deliciousness of the melted cheese drizzled over the caramelized onions and mouthwatering slices of steak, whilst others claim the processed cheese and questionable meats leave them dumbfounded as to how this has become one of the nation’s most celebrated dishes! Well we say that you can’t mock it until you’ve tried it, so get yourself down to Geno’s, where they arguably serve the best ones in town.

Boston: Happy Hour Oysters

From the greasy spoons of Philly, we venture to the altogether more polished (and expensive) eateries of Boston. The city has outlawed alcohol happy hours, so instead, the happy hours here are all about oysters, which come from the cold sea waters surrounding the New England Coast. Slap on generous helpings of horseradish, hot sauce, or mignonette and get these slippery bad boys down your throat before happy hour ends! An essential experience to at least try on any East Coast America trip!

If your waistline can still handle more, then make sure you head on to our West Coast tour of America, where the good food just keeps on coming, with BBQ grills at the Grand Canyon, InNOut Burgers in LA and breakfast burritos after your surf class in Santa Cruz!
