The only Taco Dip you’ll ever need—a thick layer of taco-seasoned cream cheese & sour cream topped with crisp lettuce, diced tomatoes, olives, spicy jalapeños and cheddar cheese. Like the best taco in dip form! Absolutely AMAZING!!
This creamy and delicious taco dip is one of my favorites because it’s easy to make and packs so much flavor and mouthwatering goodness in each and every bite. You won’t be able to stop at just a few dips with this one–and you’ll be getting requests again and again to make this!
Inspired by nearly everyone’s all-time favorite food, tacos(!!), today’s taco dip recipe starts with a perfectly seasoned, thick layer of taco seasoning-infused cream cheese and sour cream dip. Then, we top that goodness with lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers or jalapeños, and then add cheddar cheese and olives as a delightful garnish.
Far better than store-bought, you’ll love how easy and impressive this layered taco dip recipe truly is. Let’s make this!
Taco Dip Ingredients
- Sour cream: I used regular sour cream, but if you’re looking to healthify this recipe, try Greek yogurt or light sour cream.
- Cream cheese: make sure to soften your cream cheese by leaving it out at room temperature before you start, so this taco dip recipe is easier to make and has a smoother texture!
- Taco seasoning: I highly recommend making my homemade taco seasoning–it has a bit of a spicy kick and take this layered taco dip to the next level.
- Lettuce, Tomatoes: skip the work and buy a bag of prepared shredded lettuce!
- Bell Peppers or Jalapeños: use bell peppers if you’re sensitive to spice, but I highly recommend using sliced jalapeños! If you think jalapeños are the best part of movie nachos, then you know what I mean. 😉
- Olives: use the super easy shortcut canned sliced olives–take the shortcuts when you can!
- Cheddar cheese: you can use sharp cheddar for an extra tang, Mexican-style cheese mix for a blend of cheeses, or shredded Colby Jack for extra creaminess
How to Make Taco Dip
With just a few easy, and dare I say fun, steps, this Mexican-inspired dip recipe is one that you’ll come back to again and again.
Start the first layer of your taco dip by blending together sour cream or Greek yogurt, cream cheese and homemade taco seasoning.
Next, spoon the seasoned cream cheese mixture into an even layer on the bottom of a 9-inch or 10-inch pie dish.
Directly over the cream cheese mix, add lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, olives, and cheese. Make sure to keep about 2 tablespoons of jalapeños for garnish–this will make the taco dip look irresistible!
Add the garnish and serve immediately with baked tortilla chips or your fave chips.
Tips
To quickly soften cream cheese, microwaved unwrapped cream cheese for 10 seconds, or until just softened.
Deseed and pat dry the chopped tomatoes to avoid that gooey, juicy tomato mess in your taco dip!
Customize your cream cheese taco dip by adding toppings: a big dollop of sour cream, a side of guacamole, or an added layer to your taco dip of salsa~ Pineapple Salsa or Black Bean and Corn Salsa.
Spice it up: add a teaspoon or two of this cajun seasoning to amp up the spice factor!
Use a hand mixer: it is far too tedious, and honestly, hand-cramp-inducing to stir cream cheese and sour cream together. There’s nothing wrong with a little ease in your life. 😉
