With just under two hours left to go in the Sotheby’s auction, Tadej Pogačar’s Limited Edition Colnago “Fleur-de-Lys 001/111″‘s Limited Edition Colnago “Fleur-de-Lys 001/111” is already more expensive than many typical bikes put together. Yet, in terms of what the auction expected to bring in (Sotheby’s expects 6 figures), the current price at the time of writing of 35,000 GBP is a relative bargain.
As these kinds of things usually go, there’s a good chance we’ll see a flurry of activity at the last minute as prospective buyers (or their agents) attempt to swoop in at the last second to win at a lower price. Regardless of the final price, the winner will take home a truly unique bike that was built for Tadej Pogačar himself.
The “official bike of the 2024 Tour de France,” Colnago celebrated the grand Grand Départ in Italy with a run of 111 Colnago C68 Fleur-de-Lys. Number one of those 111 bikes was reserved for Tadej and built to his specifications. That’s the bike that’s up for auction here. Not only is Tadej the “original owner” as confirmed by the gold NFC tag on the downtube, but the other 110 bikes have already sold out, so this is the only one remaining.
While Tadej showed up to the pre-Tour UAE Team Emirates’ rider presentation in June on the bike, it’s unclear if he’s actually ridden it. Realistically, the new owner of this bike probably won’t do much riding on it either – unless they’re really trying to one-up their fellow riders on the local group ride…
