Flight Attendant-loved Travel Gear at Amazon

As a travel writer, I spend the majority of my work life traveling. So when travel professionals like flight attendants have recommendations on trip essentials that make life easier, I’m all ears. After all, they’re on the front lines flying from coast to coast, country to country, and spending long hours on their feet. Since flight attendants are always on the move and know the ins and outs of air travel, they have a wealth of information on things that can make traveling seamless.

I was ecstatic to connect with three flight attendants who shared valuable suggestions for flying and packing, including investing in comfy matching sets, packing cubes, carry-on backpacks, and more. No matter where you’re traveling, you’ll be able to put these items to good use. Here are 15 flight attendant-approved items to pack for your next vacay.

Wiholl Two-Piece Lounge Set

Amazon

For flight attendants, it’s all about comfort. New York-based flight attendant Kayla Mascis isn’t shy to proclaim that “the two things you will always find in my suitcase are a bathing suit and a pair of sweatpants. I love my sweatpants!” Although she dresses for comfort, looking stylish is just as important. That’s why she’s crushing on this two-piece set, which looks great together, but is also versatile enough to pair with other items in her suitcase when traveling. Made of lightweight, four-way stretch, the fabric is supersoft and drapey. Wear the mock turtleneck top tucked in or out for a sophisticated look. Available in 17 colors and in sizes S to XXL, snag this comfy plane outfit today.

Dickies Long-sleeve Twill Jumpsuit

Amazon

As a carry-on-only pro and travel writer, I like the versatility of jumpsuits. They’re great for vacations because it takes the thinking out of coordinating an outfit. Not to mention, it’s saving you luggage space because you’re cutting out extra pieces for an outfit. Christa Treat, who works as a flight attendant for Alaska Airlines and has been in the biz for 17 years, agrees, saying a jumpsuit is “super multipurpose” and incredibly versatile: “[D]epending on your accessories, you can dress it up or keep it casual.” Treat really likes this jumpsuit from Outerknown which is made with a soft cotton-linen blend and has plenty of pockets to stash essentials. But you can copy the look, at a fraction of the cost, with this tried-and-true option from Dickies.

Wrangler Authentics Men’s Regular Fit Comfort Flex Waist Jeans

Amazon

Southwest Airlines flight attendant Kaleb Smith loves his job because he gets to travel and see the world. He also knows just how and what to pack. “I prioritize versatility, choosing items that can be mixed and matched,” he said. That’s why these jeans make our packing list. These classic five-pocket straight-leg jeans offer a hint of stretch for comfort and movement.

Saodimallsu Long Cardigan Sweater

Amazon

Saodimallsu’s super cozy knit cardigan is made of a polyester and acrylic blend, and it’s the best layering piece when you’re traveling and unsure of what the weather will be like. Mascis always brings a nice layering piece for when nights get cool. She likes this one because “it’s dressy enough to wear for a nice dinner or a night of dancing.” It’s machine washable and available in 12 colors, from S to XXL.

Sinaliy Carry-on Travel Backpack

Amazon

This backpack is one of Mascis’ favorite bags for traveling for both work and pleasure. I have to admit, I couldn’t agree more. The Sinaliy travel backpack passes as a carry-on or personal item bag for most airlines. It features numerous pockets for stashing your essentials, and has a padded pocket for up to a 16-inch laptop. One of the winning attributes of this bag is that it can be carried as a bookbag or as a briefcase. It also has a trolley sleeve that slides right over your luggage handle, making travel seamless and efficient. Choose from eight colors and two different sizes.

Coolover Copper Compression Socks 6 Pairs

Amazon

All three of our pros recommend compression socks because they help alleviate some of the swelling that can occur when flying. Treat is partial to this brand because “they make cute ones, and no one will even know you have them on!” The copper-infused performance fabric is breathable and moisture-wicking, which makes them suitable for both warm and cold climates. Coolover offers tons of color options, as well as cute patterns and prints, and socks are available in two size ranges. In addition to socks, Smith advised passengers to move around. “Take regular breaks to stand up, stretch, and walk around the cabin,” he said, adding that “simple leg and ankle exercises can help improve circulation.”

Fandee Maxi Dress

Amazon

Both Mascis and Treet have maxi dresses on the top of their packing list. Needless to say, as a carry-on-only traveler and packing expert, I’m in agreement with them. Maxi dresses are not only comfortable and pack well, they are also perfect for any occasion. Fandee’s three-quarter-sleeve maxi dress is made of 95 percent polyester and 5 percent spandex, which offers comfort and stretch throughout the day. The high-waist and faux-tie front help accentuate the waist, making it a figure-flattering win. With over 35 colors and prints to choose from, you’ll be sure to find a dress that’s suitable for you. “I always have at least [one nice dress] for going out, whether it’s for a nice dinner or a night of dancing,” said Mascis, whose favorite spot for relaxing is Palm Springs, with Italy a close second.

Maxtop Large Crossbody With 4 Zipper Pockets

Amazon

As a busy world traveler, Smith is well-versed in the art of navigating busy cities and staying stylish while doing so. That’s why he loves a good crossbody bag. “They’re great for hands-free convenience,” he said. We recommend this one from Maxtop for its unisex design and roomy fit. The adjustable strap can transition into a fanny pack, depending on your waist. There’s even a headphone hole for your smartphone so that you can use it when jogging or cycling.

Bagail 10-set Packing Cubes

Amazon

Mascis swears by packing cubes, stating, “they’re absolutely necessary. They will save you so much room and hold so much.” Her favorite packing cube set is from CALPAK, but if you’re traveling on budget, we like this Bagail set for its amazing price point and consistent five-star rating. You’ll get six packing cubes in a variety of sizes as well as a laundry, shoe, toiletry, and accessories bag for organizing all your essentials. As a frequent flier, I can’t stress how useful these are!

Qggqdd Wide-leg Palazzo Pants

Amazon

To be honest, it wasn’t until about two years ago when I discovered how flattering palazzo pants can be, so when Mascis mentioned they’re on the top of her packing list, too, I was glad I gave them a second chance. She recommends these pants because they’re flattering and slimming. Made of four-way stretch, they mold to your shape, without being too tight, and they provide maximum coverage. No see-through fabric here! The wide waistband hugs in your tummy in all the right places and the wide leg accentuates your legs. They’re great for yoga, long-haul flights, lounging, and even the office.

Outdoor Ventures Women’s Lightweight Waterproof Fleece-lined Jacket

Amazon

All of our pros recommend packing a lightweight jacket, no matter where you’re visiting. Based on their callouts for what makes a great lightweight jacket, we chose this one from Outdoor Ventures. This jacket does nearly everything: it’s waterproof, fleece-lined for warmth, and works for all seasons. Plus, the care instructions are super easy — just throw it in the wash and it’ll be good as new. Customers love how high quality it is, with one reviewer stating, “I’m very impressed by the quality of the fabric, the thoughtful design, and the excellent workmanship.”

Perilogics Airplane Phone Holder Mount

Amazon

Not only does this phone holder mount come with high praises from Treat, but more than 14,000 five-star reviewers also love how convenient it makes their in-flight experience. Say yes to a hands-free and practical solution to watching shows and movies while traveling. Compact and adjustable to fit a wide range of phone sizes, the mount offers 360-degree rotation along with the convenience of folding up and fitting in your pocket.

DripDrop Hydration Electrolyte Drink Mix

Amazon

Besides compression socks, our flight pros can’t stress hydration enough. Beyond drinking water, try staying hydrated with electrolytes. DripDrop’s 16-pack electrolyte drink mix is gluten-free and vegan without any added artificial sweeteners. “A lot of the medical emergencies on the airplanes happen from dehydration and standing up too fast and passing out. Bring an electrolyte packet and bring your own water bottle,” suggested Treat.

Coofandy Men’s Button-down Shirt

Amazon

A button-down shirt is a must-have, according to Smith, who loves visiting cities rich with culture and architecture like London and Barcelona. That’s why he absolutely loves his job: “It allows me to not only try new things but also connect with diverse communities, making each trip a chance to meet fascinating people.” This casual men’s top is made from a rayon-linen blend, which offers breathability and comfort. Amazon customers liked the tapered cut and “classy” design. Available in 43 prints and colors, you’re going to want more than one.

The Gym People High-waist Leggings

Amazon

Flight attendants like basics that can be worn more than once and multiple ways, which saves on luggage space. That’s why both Treat and Mascis like these leggings. Versatile and affordable, this pair is proof you don’t need to spend a fortune to have a good set of leggings. They offer plenty of stretch, comfort, and versatility, so you can wear them during your workout or out to dinner with a nice tunic. Two side pockets allow you to store your essentials and one hidden inner pocket in the back waistband can hold smaller items like a room key or credit card.
