French Gimlet Cocktail Recipe – Beaming Baker

A sophisticated twist on the classic gimlet, this French Gimlet cocktail features St. Germain elderflower liqueur, freshly squeezed lime juice, and a wonderful shot of gin.

French Gimlet

The first time Erik tried elderflower liqueur, he half expected the magical-sounding beverage to be served by hobbits (who would also magically appear when the bottle was opened). Let’s just say I didn’t have such expectations when working on this French Gimlet recipe. 😉

The thing about the main ingredient for a French Gimlet is that it looks, smells, and tastes like a bit of a fantasy: it’s floral, light, and has a pleasantly bright taste. I hope you enjoy exploring St. Germain with me in making today’s French Gimlet! Let’s go!

Ingredients

A French Gimlet is made with 3 simple ingredients and a garnish. These ingredients are:

  1. Gin
  2. Elderflower Liqueur – St. Germain
  3. Lime Juice

Garnish: Lime wedge or lime peel

What is a French Gimlet?

It is a twist on the classic Gimlet. A gimlet is made with gin, lime juice, and simple syrup, while a French Gimlet is made with gin, St. Germain, and lime juice.

St. Germain Gimlet

Because St. Germain is a liqueur made in France, the addition of this French liqueur in a Gimlet makes it a French Gimlet.

Difference between a Gimlet and a Gin Rickey

Now that you know what a Gimlet and a French Gimlet are, you might still be wondering… what is the difference between a gimlet and a Gin Rickey?

The difference is in the bubbles. A Gin Rickey is a Gimlet made with carbonated water.
