Gear Break: New Tifosi Stash sunglasses, RUBBER N’ ROAD opens newest Mallorca pop-Up store, Officina Pegoretti presents the Duende Rock & Roll, an all-sur face Frame inspired by the brand’s longtime CX cyclocross model, UDOG CENTO: The time is now, Imatra, the app that turns the energy you generate by cycling into digital currency and SockGuy releases 2 new designs for Spring 2024.

Tifosi Stash – $79.95

Tifosi 2024

The perfect fusion of style, comfort, and performance. Stash features an innovative, oversized frame with a lower lens bar that stabilizes the frame and increases durability. The lens bar works as an easy lens change system, making it simple to switch between tints and features. The shatterproof lenses ensure long-term protection, making Stash a durable choice for endurance sports. Vented lenses increase airflow and shield your eyes from debris, ensuring minimal distractions and fatigue during your activities.

Chuck Peña PEZ sez: The Stash is Tifosi’s newest pair of sunglasses. In keeping with the current fashion trend, they’re a pair of oversized shield-style sunglasses. The Stash comes in four models. The Blackout and Race Pink come with three interchangeable lenses. The Matte Smoke and Matte Gunmetal come with a single Clarion (mirrored) Fototec lens (tint adapts to changing light conditions). PEZ got the Matte Gunmetal with Clarion Red Fototec.

Size-wise, the Stash isn’t the biggest of big when it comes to Tifosi’s range of shield-style sunglasses. For comparison, the Rail lens is 131 mm wide x 59.5 mm tall vs 127 mm wide x 53 mm tall for the Stash. But that’s still plenty of lens real estate for sun and wind protection.

Style-wise, the Stash is a little bit different in that it isn’t frameless. There’s a “half” frame that surrounds the sides and bottom of the lens. So a different look and a way to stand out a little in a sea of oversized shield-style sunglasses.

Regardless of lens size, what’s important is lens optics. In that department, the Tifosi Stash (as well as all my other Tifosi sunglasses) is crystal clear.

The nose and ear pieces can be adjusted for fit

If I know I’m going to be out on a ride in bright sunlight all day long, I’ll wear a pair of sunglasses with a suitably deep, dark tint. But I’m a big fan of Tifosi’s Fototec technology with lenses that change tint based on light conditions. For me, they are true “do it all” lenses. In bright sunlight, they are dark enough (although not quite as dark as a single-purpose dark tinted lens). The cool 😎 factor is that Clarion Red Fototec lens darkens to a red mirrored finish (blue mirror in a Clarion Blue Fototec lens). When clouds roll in, the tint lightens up but still cuts the glare. In fact, I can ride with the Fototec lens at night in an urban setting with ambient light and a good headlight (mine is 1000 lumens).

Top: Indoors in low light the lens is lightly tinted. Bottom: Outdoors in sunlight and the lens darkens up and takes on a mirrored finish.

If you opt for the Blackout or Race Pink models, you’ll get three interchangeable lenses: tinted for sunny days, AC Red for overcast/cloudy conditions, and clear. One thing worth noting is that even with the interchangeable lenses, the Stash (like all of Tifosi’s sunglasses) is still less than $100. You could pay nearly that much for an extra lens that isn’t included with some other high end sunglasses.

Tifosi
To change out a lens (not something I need to worry about doing with the Clarion Fototec Red lens), hold the lens (1) with one hand (I use the included microfiber case to make sure I don’t scratch the lens) and lift (2) the frame up and out. Repeat on the other side. Reverse the process to install a lens.

Tifosi
If you can, it’s always a good idea to try on a pair of sunglasses with your helmet just to make sure the two work together

Officina Pegoretti Presents the Duende Rock & Roll, An All-Sur face Frame Inspired by the Brand’s Longtime CX Cyclocross Model
A stainless steel disc frame with a new ‘Piron’ carbon fibre fork.

Pegotetti

Pegoretti’s Duende platform has always covered a lot of ground, from the clean lines of the road model to the wide-tire ‘CX’ version, a longtime favourite in the cyclocross scene. And now, with the new ‘Rock & Roll’ frame, the Italian brand continues in the spirit of ‘Duende’, the Spanish term for the magic conjured by the passion and soul of flamenco, to create its most versatile frame yet.

The new frame blends the all-terrain chops of the CX with the spirit of Pegoretti’s road frames and takes off for pastures new with the versatility to ride on any surface.

Pegoretti 2024

The Duende Rock & Roll, or ‘RR’, features custom Columbus XCR stainless steel tubing, disc brakes, and a new carbon fibre fork called ‘Piron’, which is designed to accept up to 40mm tyres. It’s a radically different design from the brand’s Falz fork, reflecting the new frame’s versatility.

On the road, the Duende RR blends superb responsiveness with telling comfort and the modulari ty of wider tires. All-weather add-ons like mudguard mounts allow the frame to shoulder the worst conditions without skipping a beat. However, with the option of rack mounts and a switch to flat bars, the Duende RR turns into a fast city commuter.
For those who look beyond the asphalt, the Duende RR equips the modern explorer for the fields, trails and generally less pristine conditions that come with following your curiosity, wherever that may lead.

Pegoretti 2024

“For the past few seasons, our clients have been requesting a modern version of the CX,” explained Pegoretti’s Cristina Würdig. “So we took the opportunity to think about how we could reinterpret the CX platform and, at the same time, create a frame with versatility at its core, able to ride on the road, city and trail, and respond with the same feel and responsiveness that Pegoretti is known for.” These attributes extend to the new ‘Piron’ fork, despite its divergence from the Falz. “With the need to accommodate wider tires, the design naturally had to adapt,” said Pegoretti’s Pietro Pietricola. “We also took the opportunity to create a shape that, when observed from the side, describes a single line from the headset to the front hub. The Piron also differs from the Falz in that it only comes in a single rake of 50mm, which, when combined with the R&R’s 72-degree head angle, best suits the R&R’s all-surface nature.”

At launch, the Duende RR is offered in a unique ‘Spaghetti’ graphic, a tongue-in-cheek design inspired by that most sacred Italian practice: the preparing of the pasta. And as we all know, pas ta comes in a lot of varieties.

Imatra, the App that Turns the Energy you Generate by Cycling into Digital Currency
Imatra Coin is the new sustainable digital currency, created through an innovative token and a highly energy-efficient ‘proof of stake’ process.

Imatra 2024

From today, cycling becomes a value. Imatra is the application that converts the kilometres travelled into a 100% green and human-generated digital currency.

Not to be confused with cryptocurrency, Imatra Coin is an ethical, non-speculative digital currency and offers the opportunity to purchase the most exclusive products from over one hundred premium luxury brands in the cycling world on imatra.com, in addition to several dedicated limited editions. Soon, the community will also be able to exchange and buy Imatra Coins from others in a circular and virtuous ecosystem.

Imatra 2024

The app is free for iOS and Android and is very easy to use: just a few steps and you can start earning money immediately.

After logging in, the user must remember to launch the app by clicking on Start before setting off on a ride. In this way, the activity will be registered immediately and the app will automatically calculate the kilometres, which will be converted into Imatra Coins. At the end of your ride, click on stop to validate the route and end the activity.

The kilometres are calculated using an algorithm that calculates the conversion based on distance and gradient. For every 25 normalised kilometres travelled, the user is entitled to 1 Imatra Coin worth between €0.5 and €4.00, depending on the type of product on imatra.com. There are different ways of purchasing: items can be purchased entirely in euros or entirely in Imatra Coins, or partly in euros and partly in Imatra Coins. Exceptions are some products that can only be purchased with this digital currency.

Imatra 2024

Sustainability is one of the cornerstones of the Imatra application, as the whole project is based on respect for the environment. The app also makes it possible to visualise the actual CO2 savings, showing how each kilometre travelled in the open air contributes to the well-being of all the inhabitants of the planet.

Health also plays an important role in Imatra’s philosophy. Cycling involves several muscle groups, greatly improves stamina and helps to improve heart health. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, lowers blood pressure and increases levels of good cholesterol (HDL). Cycling also helps to burn calories and is an effective way to control body weight.

The aim of using the app is to develop a good habit, geared towards a healthy lifestyle, by promoting exercise and the outdoors.

Imatra’s mission is based on individual and then global change, uniting the community in something that is much more than a sport, it is a true lifestyle, creating value and helping to make a difference, one pedal stroke at a time. The journey of Imatra and its community continues to evolve; a journey of goals, commitment and ever greater achievements.
