Why You Will Love These Recipes

  • Pantry Convenience ā€“Ā granulated garlic and garlic powder are the best substitute for fresh garlic. Making them saves you time and effort in peeling and chopping cloves every single time.
  • ConsistentĀ flavorĀ ā€“Ā unlike fresh garlic, in which the intensity is inconsistent, granulated garlic and garlic powder provides a consistent and predictable flavor profile every time. You just need to adjust how much you put in your dishes.
  • Easy to Use ā€“Ā both seasonings dissolve quickly in liquids. They are distributed evenly in dry rubs or seasoning blends, making them easy to incorporate into recipes like meats, soups or casseroles.

Difference Between Granulated Garlic And Garlic Powder

The main difference between garlic granules and garlic powder is their texture. Granulated garlic has a coarser texture, resembling small grains or cornmeal, while garlic powder has a finer consistency, like flour.

Their difference in texture can impact their use in recipes, as granulated garlic may add a bit of crunch or texture, while garlic powder blends more seamlessly. It will depend on how you want your final dish to look and taste using each spice.

Granulated Garlic Or Garlic Powder: Which Has A Stronger Flavor?

In terms ofĀ flavor, granulated garlic is usually stronger than garlic powder. This is because garlic powder has a finer texture, concentrating garlic flavor more intensely than the coarser granules in granulated garlic.

I have tried using both, and I found garlic powder to be more intense and have a more garlicky flavor with just a pinch of it.Ā

Various forms of garlic are displayed: peeled cloves, minced, powdered, and sliced, alongside whole garlic bulbs on a dark surface.

Ways To Use Granulated Garlic

Granulated garlic can be usedĀ in many ways to addĀ flavorĀ to food. You can sprinkle it on meat before cooking, stir it intoĀ soupsĀ orĀ stews, or mix it into homemade pasta sauces likeĀ marinara sauce,Ā bolognese sauce, andĀ evenĀ salad dressings.

My favorite way to use it is to sprinkle it over an already-made salad mix for that extra crunch andĀ flavor.

It is also perfect on roasted vegetables like thisĀ skewered brussel sproutsĀ or in marinades for a tasty kick. You can even make garlic bread with it using a slice ofĀ farmersā€™ bread. Experiment and find how it enhances the taste of your favorite dishes.

Ways To Use Garlic Powder

Garlic powder is also versatile and easy to use.Ā You can use it as aĀ substitute for minced garlic in many dishesĀ in your marinadeĀ or as a meat rub.

It is perfect for seasoning vegetable meals, such as thisĀ cauliflower riceĀ andĀ mashed cauliflowerĀ recipe, for an additional savory taste.

Like granulated garlic, you can stir it into soups, sauces, or gravies for an extra kick or sprinkle it onĀ homemade popcornĀ for movie nights.

How To Make Granulated Garlic And Garlic Powder Using Dried Garlic

Making yourĀ ownĀ garlic granules and powder is much easier and cheaper than buying them at the store. With these pantry staples, you can enjoy the benefits of garlic without any additives, and it can last longer when stored right.

Kitchen Gadgets Needed:

  • Dehydrator:Ā Use for drying the garlic.
  • Magic Bullet:Ā Essential for blending the dried garlic into your desired size.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Fresh Garlic:Ā Always look for fresh garlic bulbs. Any garlic will work as long as it is fresh and clean.
  • Olive Oil:Ā Perfect for seasoning the garlic before dehydrating and preventing it from sticking onto the trays during drying.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKING GRANULATED AND POWDERED GARLIC

First Step: Prepare Your Garlic

The first thing to do is to peel the whole cloves of garlic and wash them with clean water.

Slice them into thin slices to dry them later in the dehydrator. They will dry faster if they are thinly sliced.

Second Step: Dehydrate

Prepare the dehydrator trays and attach a plastic silicone insertĀ if possibleĀ soĀ the chopped garlic will be placedĀ perfectly and not fall off.

Spray a little olive oil on the surface of the trays and spread it all around. Lay all the garlic slices on top of each other. Do not stack them onĀ top ofĀ each other, as we do not want uneven drying.

If you are preparing a large batch, use more trays. Close the lid, and dry at 70Ā°C for 6-7 hours.Ā

Third Step: Blend Garlic Granules

After drying the garlic, prepare it for blending. Grind the dehydrated garlic slices by pulsing using the Magic Bullet Blender. Only press the blender fully if you want a finer consistency.

Check if the size of the granules is okay. They should look like cornmeal but in garlic bits.

Fourth Step: Blend Garlic Powder

Follow the same process as I did for the granulated garlic. Toss the dehydrated garlic slices into the blender and grind until powdered.

Garlic powder has a finer consistency, so press that blender until fully powdered.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Picking garlic ā€“Ā When choosing garlic for these recipes, look for the freshest ones and pick white ones with crispy skin on the outside. You can also smell the garlic bulbs and tell if they are fresh.
  • Olive oil ā€“Ā Spraying olive oil in the dehydrator trays before the garlic will help prevent slices from sticking during drying. Olive oil can also enhance theĀ flavorĀ of the garlic once dried.
  • Grinding ā€“Ā You can use a food processor, coffee grinder, mortar, and pestle to grind the granulated and powdered garlic.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Substitute For Granules And Powdered Garlic

You can use fresh minced garlic if youĀ are looking forĀ a substitute for granulated or powdered garlic. Replace one teaspoon of granulated or powdered garlic with one fresh, finely chopped clove.

Are Granulated Garlic And Garlic Powder Interchangeable?

If a recipe calls for one and you only have the other, you can usually make the substitution. Remember that granulated garlic provides more texture to the dish while a garlic fine powder blends more smoothly.

Adjust the quantity based on your taste preferences and the texture you want in your dish.

Can I Use Garlic Salt Instead Of Garlic Powder?

You can use garlic salt as a substitute for garlic powder, but be mindful of the salt content. Garlic salt is a mixture of garlic powder and table salt, so using it as a substitute will also add salt to your dish.

  • Ranch DressingĀ ā€“ garlic seasoning in ranch dressing contributes a zesty and savory note, making the dressing more flavorful and versatile for salads or as a dip.
How Do I Store Garlic Spices?
