 Let’s Talk all Things Peaches:

Peaches are a ‘stone fruit’. Stone fruits have a large pit in the center that is surrounded by a thick flesh. Cherries, apricots, peaches, nectarines etc… are all stone fruits. Stone fruits are high in antioxidants and therefore have natural anti inflammatory properties. Unfortunately they are only in season for a short time so take advantage and get while the getting is good!

Using “Free-Stone” Peaches or “Cling” Peaches?

If available you want to use ‘freestone peaches’ instead of ‘cling’ peaches for this recipe. Cling peaches literally cling to the pit, making them perfect for eating but not as convenient when you want to cut the peach in half and remove the stone for grilling. Freestone peaches on the other hand separate easily and the pit falls right out. Free stone peaches are usually available for mid-June to mid-August. If you can’t find free stone peaches you can still use ‘cling’ peaches, but you will need to slice them instead of cutting them in half.

How to Grill:

Making grilled peaches is as easy as it gets. Simply cut freestone peaches in half and pop them on a hot grill for a few minutes…yeah…that’s it. Shortest paragraph ever.

The Toppings:

I have two suggestions for topping warm grilled peaches: sweet mascarpone cheese with honey, or straight up vanilla ice cream! Mascarpone is a sweet Italian cheese, similar to our American cream cheese but much silkier and creamier… Italians do cream cheese better. If you like a sweeter dessert you can add some honey to the cheese and mix with a fork. If you prefer you can top with your favorite vanilla ice cream. Make it good people, like Haagendaaz or Three Twins!

Drizzle with Honey or Balsamic Glaze:

Whether you choose Mascarpone or Ice cream to top your peaches, I recommend finishing with balsamic glaze (affiliate link) . I know, it looks like chocolate syrup but balsamic glaze is actually reduced balsamic vinegar that has a thick syrupy consistency. Adding balsamic glaze gives the finished product a sweet tangy boost!

  • 3
ripe ‘freestone’ peaches, cut in half, pit removed
if you can’t find freestone peaches, you can use ‘cling’ peaches but you’ll need to slice them into quarters instead of cutting in half.

If topping with Mascarpone

  • 4
    oz
    mascarpone cheese
  • 1
    tablespoon
    honey (plus more for drizzling
  • 1
    tsp
    Vanilla paste

If topping with ice cream:

  • desired amount of ice cream
  • balsamic glaze

  1. Clean grill, rub with coconut oil or use an organic spray to prevent sticking.  Preheat grill to 400 degrees.

  2. If making the mascarpone topping, use a fork to combine mascarpone, vanilla paste and honey

  3. Prepare peaches and when grill is hot place cut side down on grill. Close lid and cook for 3-5 minutes. Peaches should have nice grill marks. Note: Cooking time depends on personal preference. If you like your peaches firmer, slightly warm with grill marks, stick with three minutes. If you want them hot, sweeter and slightly charred, cook them 5 minutes.

  4. Remove from heat, top mascarpone or ice cream and drizzle lightly with balsamic glaze. Serve right away.

Happy grilling my friends! ~ Linda Spiker
