Here’s Where January’s Passport Fairs for First-time Applicants Will Be

Is your New Year’s resolution to travel more, but you’re in need of a passport? Well, securing the most necessary part of planning a dream international trip may have just gotten a bit easier.

The State Department which, for months has been holding “Special Acceptance Passport Fairs” to assist first-time passport applicants, just released a new batch of dates and locations as to where a wishful traveler can get the process started.

“Looking for a personalized experience when applying for your passport for the first time? We offer ongoing special events where you can apply in person on evenings and weekends,” the State Department notes on their website. 

In January, the dates and locations of the passport fairs are as follows:

• Jan. 8: Bridgewater, New Jersey (Appointment required)
• Jan. 8: Harrison, New Jersey (Appointment required)
• Jan. 11: Clearwater, Florida (2 locations)
• Jan. 11: St. Petersburg, Florida
• Jan. 11: Chesterland, Ohio
• Jan. 12: Los Angeles, California
• Jan. 15: Bridgewater, New Jersey (Appointment required)
• Jan. 22: Manville, New Jersey (Appointment required)
• Jan. 29: Skillman, New Jersey (Appointment required)

Exact times and locations can be found here. Many of the events take place at libraries, community centers, or other civic locations. 

For travelers who don’t see an event in their town, the agency shares they will be updating the calendar weekly with additional events. Travelers can always utilize the normal procedure for applications of a first-time passport. The agency has a dedicated webpage called “Get My Passport Fast” for urgent circumstances. 

In September, the agency announced a new procedure for online passport renewals which saves time and extra paperwork. 

“We continue to find ways to reduce administrative barriers and improve efficiency, equity, and accessibility throughout the passport application process,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken shared during the announcement.
