I’m so excited to share this recipe with you because I love using hibiscus powder. Its deep color and floral flavor make it one of my favorite ingredients. It’s perfect for teas, desserts, or even sauces. It has been a game-changer in my kitchen, and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.

If you’re curious about hibiscus flowers, they come from hibiscus plants that thrive in sunny, warm climates with rich soil. You’ll mostly find them in tropical and subtropical regions like Africa, Central America, the Caribbean, and Asia.

The flowers are harvested at their peak and dried to preserve their vibrant color and unique flavor. This drying process makes them perfect for cooking, medicinal uses, and even as a natural way to brighten the look of dishes.

Ways To Use Hibiscus Powder

The best part of this recipe is discovering all the dishes in which you can add hibiscus powder, and I can’t wait to share the perfect ways to use it in your cooking. Its bold flavor and beautiful color make it a game-changer for drinks, desserts, and more.

Make your homemade hibiscus tea using this powder, or add it to your other fruit juice and drinks like cranberry juice and strawberry smoothie. It is also suitable for adding to lemonades and mocktails for color and flavor.

  • Spoon: Check if the powder is done and transfer it to the storage jars.

  • Dried Hibiscus Flowers: These flowers are easily found in health food stores or online. Make sure they are organic and free from any additives for best results.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS TO HIBISCUS POWDER RECIPE

First Step: Prepare Ingredients

Prepare your dried hibiscus flowers and the equipment you will use for grinding.

If you use fresh hibiscus, you can dry it at home by air-drying or oven-drying.

Second Step: Grind

Transfer the dried flowers to your magic bullet blender or coffee grinder and prepare to grind.

Pulse the blender until the dried petals turn into a fine powder. You can check the powder after pulsing a few times to see if it’s okay with you, but if you want a finer powder, add a few more pulses.

Third Step: Store and Enjoy

Once you are good with the powdered hibiscus, gently open the lid and transfer your powder to any spice container. Enjoy it and start using it for your dishes.

  • Grinder: Since I only make small batches of powdered recipes, I only use a magic bullet blender, but you can use a coffee grinder, food processor, or any spice grinder you have at home.

With only one ingredient, storing dried hibiscus is simple. Keep the powder in an airtight container, stored in a cool, dark place, away from moisture and light. Label it with the date to track freshness, and aim to use it within six months for the best flavor.

Can I Freeze Hibiscus Powder?

I don’t recommend freezing hibiscus powder since moisture can ruin its texture and quality. Just keep it sealed in an airtight container in your pantry to maintain its freshness and flavor.
