Our quick, 2-ingredient magic shell recipe is made with semi-sweet chocolate chips and coconut oil. Let it set on top of yogurt, ice cream, protein bark, smoothies, or even our mousse recipe! Crack the shell, and enjoy 😋
We’ve been adding our homemade magic shell to sweet treats and snacks for years, so we thought we’d make things officially official and share our go-to, 2-ingredient easy magic shell recipe. All you need?
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips: technically any variety of chocolate chips will work, so choose your own adventure here. We’ve tested this recipe with milk chocolate, dark chocolate, even white chocolate chips.
- Coconut oil: you’ll measure the coconut oil before melting it, and then put it right in a microwave-safe bowl with the chocolate chips.
You can add magic shell to pretty much anything! One of our favorite ways to enjoy it is on top of a single-serve yogurt. Simply remove the top of the yogurt, top with magic shell, and place in the fridge to harden. Then, enjoy! If you’re batch making these, just place the yogurt cups topped with magic shell in an air-tight container in the fridge for storage.
Want to skip the coconut oil? You can definitely make magic shell without the coconut oil, just know that it will result in a harder chocolate shell that will require more time to set in the fridge.
Make it Crispy
When we were testing this recipe, we wanted to get a little more creative than JUST chocolate, so we sprinkled a few tablespoons of rice krispies cereal and stirred it into the chocolate before pouring over the yogurt. The result is a fun, crunchy chocolate-y magic shell.

- This recipe can be made without coconut oil, it will just be a harder magic shell that will need more time to set.
- To make the magic shell crispy, add 1-2 tablespoons of rice krispies or crushed chex to the chocolate.
