How Far Is Lionel Messi From Becoming Inter Miami’s All-Time Leading Goal Scorer After Equalling Gonzalo Higuain’s Record Against St. Louis?

Breaking records is always business as usual for someone like Lionel Messi. The Argentinian superstar has often found unique ways to startle his faithful by consistently etching his name in the history books. Today’s MLS fixture against St. Louis was another opportunity to witness the Herons’ star create history by equaling ex-Inter Miami star Gonzalo Higuain’s record. However, all eyes now turn to a bigger feat as questions loom about how far Messi is from becoming Inter Miami’s all-time top scorer.

Everyone knew that La Pulga coming to MLS would lead to him shattering records. Speaking of today’s feat, Messi now stands alongside former Miami striker and Argentinian compatriot Higuain, having made over 41 goal contributions for the Florida-based club. But what comes as a surprise is how quickly the former Barcelona man achieved this record!
While Higuain made these 41 contributions in 70 matches, Messi did this in just 29 matches. This is the fastest anyone would ever equal this record. However, there is still one count where the 8x Ballon d’Or winner lags behind the former Juventus star.

With 29 goals and 12 assists, Higuain remains Inter Miami’s top scorer. On the other hand, Messi has notched 25 goals and 16 assists so far for the pink side, leaving him trailing by just 4 goals—a gap that seems like a piece of cake for the 36-year-old. But this doesn’t mean with such numbers, Messi is just in Higuain’s rearview mirror; with 2 goals, the World Cup winner would be required to break Leonardo Campana’s 27-goal record.
