8 miles @ 8:25 pace with Emilee on Thursday!
Let’s rewind to Wednesday’s workout. My coach had us meet her for this one which makes us feel like a big deal when we have someone there yelling tips and splits at us.
The key to big workouts is to do a chunk of them in the dark so you don’t even know what you are doing because you are still 75% asleep. There is something about splitting things up in your brain that helps so much for workouts… and now we are approaching that time of year where most will be in the dark and a few will be in the light.
A beautiful bonus of trying out something new after years of doing similar training is you have nothing to compare yourself to haha. Because we are doing more workouts per week, I have no idea how to rate where I’m at with my 800s. But I felt like I gave my best effort on really tired legs, and that’s all I could do!
Here’s what we did: 4-mile warmup, 5 x 800s @ a little under marathon goal pace 3:05/3:06 with 90-second recoveries and then trickled down for 6 more 800s with 2-minute recoveries: 3:02, 2:59, 2:53, 2:46, 2:47, 2:56 (I felt like a baby giraffe on that last one, my legs were wobbly). We’ve been doing so much aerobic effort work that it felt strange to dip about into anaerobic, but we will do more of it now as we are getting closer.
When you plop onto the turf at the end and you are sweaty as can be:
Andrew and Beck joined me for my double of 3.5 miles (16 total for the day) @ 8:01 average. My legs felt much better for my double than they did the next morning for my run! Blurry photo alert:
85° heat training.
Yesterday, my brother and SIL were in town to drop off my niece at college! I have 5 nieces and nephews at BYU this year and I’m going to require them to have dinner at my house AT LEAST once a month.
My mom and dad came for breakfast too. We went to TRUreligion and the food was outrageously good.
Beck got to go and meet his new teacher for pre-school yesterday. He was ready for this moment 3 years ago.
How is this happening? My baby!
More pizza for dinner! This thing is too easy.
I’ve been seeing so many people talk about this book and I’m thinking maybe September book club??
I’m trying Skratch for the first time tomorrow on my long run. I will have bottles at the marathon so I’m wondering if this would be a good option to use for those!

Ever tried Skratch? What do you use for hydration on long runs/races?
What do you have going on this weekend?
Do you enjoy track work? Or prefer speed on the roads?
What’s for dinner tonight?
