I Walked Around Two Cities for Hours in These Sneakers

During a recent, exceptionally busy weekend, I found myself up and down the East Coast from New York City to Boston. During my very brief but very active time in these cities (read: on my feet walking for hours), I clocked many miles and even more steps. I decided to pack a new pair of sneakers I just received with the opportunity to test, which was a risky move, since I’ve traveled with new sneakers in the past only to be left with blisters and achy feet after not breaking them in first. Lucky for me, my ankles, and my arches, this pair was supportive and ultra-lightweight straight out of the box.

I own a variety of Alo Yoga’s clothing, so I was optimistic the brand’s just-dropped Alo Runner sneakers would be equally as comfy as its apparel that celebs like Martha Stewart and Jennifer Garner are fans of, too. And they did not disappoint. The shoes are designed to support not just your feet, but your entire body, so your legs don’t tire after activity, either. After miles of walking around two cities in four days, I can confirm this to be true.

I was shocked by how lightweight the shoes were from the moment I put them on, and I particularly noticed the firm cushioning at the heel, along with the dual-density midsole that offers a soft impact with every stride. The performance shoe also features a heel clip for stability on all types of terrain, including street, trail, sand, and track. I tested them while walking on cobblestone and pavement, and my typically clumsy self felt comfortable and confident. It also helped that the shoe’s outsole has a good grip, which looks like strategically placed rectangular pods that provide good traction.

One of my favorite features is the breathable, double-layer mesh upper that encourages airflow, which was helpful during my outdoor adventures. Between us, my feet sweat (a lot). In fact, it’s the area where I perspire the most, but the Alo Runner prevented that from happening despite all of the walking I did. The mesh material, which is made from 70 percent recycled material, also contributes to the airy, light feel of the sneakers that makes me practically forget I’m wearing them at all.

I have the shoes in white, and they’re also available in black, which may be a smarter option if you plan to use them while hiking or exploring trails. Both colors feature reflective details that catch the light at night, making them stylish and practical.

I currently own seven pairs of sneakers, but I keep reaching for these thanks to their versatility and cushioned support. I can just as easily style them with joggers or leggings, like Kylie Jenner recently did while wearing them in black, as I can with trousers and a blouse. The shoes run a bit snug, so I recommend going up a half-size for an ideal fit. Plus, they’re available in a huge range of sizes — from a five to a 17.

While my week of road trip travel was exhausting, my feet were about the only part of me that didn’t feel tired thanks to the Alo Runner. Grab a pair ASAP, as they just dropped on September 5 and sizes are sure to sell out quickly. And read below for more of my picks from the brand’s fall athleisure.
