Kevin Kisner would be an outstanding Ryder Cup vice captain

Welcome to Playing Through’s daily ritual — Golf Talk Today.

Each day, the crew will discuss various elements of the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf, and more.

Today, I want to discuss Kevin Kisner and how he could help Team USA take home the Ryder Cup title at Bethpage Black in 2025.

Kisner joined the NBC broadcast team for a few events this year while playing on the PGA Tour. He helped out at the FedEx St. Jude Championship this past weekend and mentioned that he was an assistant captain for the President’s Cup team.

Presidents Cup captain for Team USA, Jim Furyk, named Kisner as an assistant in June.

Kisner mentioned that on air, giving me a great idea to put in the universe.

He must be one of Keegan Bradley’s vice-captains at the Ryder Cup.

Bradley already has Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker as two vice-captains.

Kisner would make a great addition to this group.

The former Georgia Bulldog holds a 2-2-3 Presidents Cup record after stints on Team USA in 2017 and 2022.

He loves match-play. Kisner won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in 2019 and finished runner-up in 2018 and 2022. The guy knows what it takes to play well in those

“Match play is my favorite format in golf, and I’m looking forward to adding some expertise and insight to our team room as we lead an incredible contingent of players into Montreal,” Kisner said in the assistant captain announcement press release.

“Jim is someone I’ve looked up to throughout my career and is naturally a great leader, so it was a thrill when he called and asked me to serve as a captain’s assistant this fall.”

However, he has never made the Ryder Cup Team. Many speculate that Kisner could have been the Captain’s pick in 2021, but Steve Stricker ultimately did not select him.

I remember Kisner calling the Ryder Cup “too political” after he got snubbed. However, that is another reason he is perfect for the gig. He could support Bradley’s mindset of having the 12 best players on the team.

His wit and great sense of humor would help keep the locker room light. Kisner is also a PGA Tour veteran. He knows a lot of guys, and since he is so approachable, many people know him.

Furyk’s selection of him to be a captain’s assistant at the Presidents Cup will also give him the leadership experience, or at least enough of it, to help out Bradley.

Kisner is perfect for this position. If he continues to help with broadcasting, the 40-year-old will have even more opportunities to talk with players and help find the best 12.
