Kevin Magnussen hopeful he will learn his F1 fate ‘soon’

The game of Formula 1 driver musical chairs is heating up, with more drivers having locked down a seat for the 2025 season. That list includes both Sergio Pérez and Yuki Tsunoda, who secured spots in the Red Bull family as was announced ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.

One driver who is still searching for a spot is hopeful that he will learn his fate “soon.”

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen, who is set to see his contract with the team expire at the end of the current campaign, addressed his future with the media ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. “They’ve told me that they’re not in a rush, and that’s okay – they’re in control there,” described Magnussen regarding his discussions with Haas. “I think it’s a very open market at the moment, and lots of pieces have to fall in the puzzle. Slowly it’s starting to go together, and hopefully we’ll all have our future sorted quite soon.”

Magnussen indicated in Montreal that he has been speaking with the teams who have yet to set their lineup for next season. “I think everyone is talking to everyone and checking what options we all have,” added the driver. “As I said, hopefully everyone’s future will be sorted sooner rather than later.”

While his F1 future is certainly on his mind, Magnussen has some more pressing matters to contend with during the current campaign. Due to a string of penalties, the Haas driver currently has ten points on his Super License, and just two more points would see Magnussen hit with a one-race ban.

Complicating matters is that Magnussen was assessed all ten of those points this season, and he will not see any of those points expire until March of 2025.

Provided he has a seat next season.
