MAN v FAT, the UK’s leading male weight loss programme, is to partner with the Castleford Tigers Community Foundation to support men in the town to take steps to improve their health and wellbeing.
Having supported tens of thousands of men to lose over 750,000lbs of weight since they got started in 2014, MAN v FAT picked up the oval ball in 2024 to further spread the word on male wellbeing.
And Castleford is set to become one of the latest launches in MAN v FAT Rugby, with the club getting underway in March at Castleford Academy.
Karl White, from MAN v FAT’s HQ team said: “I was enthused to hear Anthony’s passion towards wanting to make a real difference to men’s lives within the local community. It’s clear that under his guidance the Castleford Tigers Community Foundation will help influence positive healthy changes, and this perfectly aligns with our own objectives not only in Castleford, but across the country.”
“It’s also a strong message for the rugby league community that a shift towards social impact and using our great game as a vehicle to do that currently exists, and we can be seen as more than a game but a true rugby league family.” – Anthony Atherton, Castleford Tigers Community Foundation#
The Castleford Tigers Community Foundation provides a wide range of sporting, educational, entrepreneurial, health and wellbeing programmes to benefit their local area and the team there are excited to be partnering with MAN v FAT to bring weight loss support to the town.
Anthony Atherton, Foundation Manager, added: “The programme that Karl and the team have put together is great, it gives us another opportunity to connect with our town, and provide a new opportunity that can have a significant impact upon health and wellbeing. It’s also a strong message for the rugby league community that a shift towards social impact and using our great game as a vehicle to do that currently exists, and we can be seen as more than a game but a true rugby league family.”
Having launched a number of clubs at the tail end of 2024, the MAN v FAT team are already seeing successes on the scales in their Rugby clubs too – and Karl is confident that similar achievements will be made in Castleford: “MAN v FAT Football succeeds off the back of a strong community feel and we know that community is a reason why rugby clubs up and down the country prosper.
“We have already seen some strong friendships built in our initial Rugby clubs and are looking forward to seeing this unfold in Castleford too.”
As with MAN v FAT Football, rugby participants would need to be aged 18+ with a BMI of 27.5 or higher to get started. More details about the programme and how to register can be found at www.manvfatrugby.com.
