Mondo Duplantis vaults from boyfriend to fiancé

Sorry ladies–pole vault superstar and international heartthrob Mondo Duplantis is officially off the market. The world record holder and two-time Olympic champion casually called up Vogue Scandinavia to help him with an elaborate proposal on a sandy beach in the Hamptons, N.Y., at sunset–without drawing suspicions from his girlfriend of four years, Desiré Inglander.

Inglander was told the occasion was simply an editorial shoot for Vogue Scandinavia–the couple appeared in the June issue of the magazine. Duplantis said he’d been planning the feat ever since his win at the 2024 Paris Olympics in August.

The duo have been dating since 2020, when they met at a Midsommar party in Sweden. Now, they split their time between Sweden and the U.S. While Duplantis, 24, is the best pole vaulter the world has ever seen, Inglander, 23, has her own successful career. The Stockholm native is a model and social media influencer, with 1.1 million followers on TikTok and nearly 700,000 followers on Instagram.

Inglander attends all of her now-fiancé’s competitions. At the Paris Olympics, the couple shared a viral gold-medal moment after Duplantis’s world-record jump, when the athlete ran straight from the pole vault mat to kiss Inglander.

According to Duplantis, competing on the world stage is much less nerve-wracking than popping the question. Duplantis told Vogue Scandinavia it was the most nervous he’d ever been. “I had a few lines I thought I was going to say, but I lost my words. I completely froze.”
