New York Botanical Garden Is Getting a Festive New Light Trail This Holiday Season

There’s a new kind of nightmare heading to New York City! Disney’s Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas will debut its new light trail in Bronx’s New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) this fall.

Running from Sept. 27 to Nov. 3, the immersive after-dark experience will feature characters like Jack Skellington, Sally, and Zero, as well as iconic scenes and memorable songs from the 1993 animated film. The 19 displays will include 8,300 square feet of light installations, including video projections, LED lighting, and 3-D printed sculptures. Designed for visitors of all ages, the one-way path takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

Presented in partnership with Buena Vista Theatrical, the spectacle is co-produced by experiential entertainment company Adventurelive, whose team worked on Hamilton on Broadway. Madrid-based LETSGO, which ran Tim Burton’s Labyrinth in Madrid, Paris, Berlin, and Barcelona, and the Salvador Dali-themed Art in Nature in Paris, is also a co-producer.

“I want to make an experience that surprises people, that is both visually stunning and sonically cool,” Jeffrey Seller, Adventurelive’s founder, said in a release shared with Travel + Leisure. “This is going to be a thrilling new way to experience both Tim Burton’s story and one of the greatest gardens on Earth.”

The light trail will be open from dusk to 10 p.m. on Thursdays through Sundays during its nine-week engagement.

While the experience is on the grounds of the NYBG, it is a separate attraction, requiring its own ticket. Timed entry tickets start at $49 for those aged 13 or older, and $39 for children aged two to 12, while flexible entry tickets start from $55 to $59 depending on the date and time. Four or more tickets can be bought as part of the special Jack 4-Pack pricing starting at $39 each.
