If you use any sort of social media, you’ve probably seen countless TikTok or Instagram posts of athletes showing off their Paris Olympic team gear. Since some of us don’t get to enjoy wearing these uniforms ourselves, we at least deserve to have some fun comparing the outfits. Here are some of our favourite and least favourite uniforms from the 2024 Games, from worst to best.
Ireland
The award for the worst uniform goes to Ireland. The opening ceremonies look for the Irish suggests that all the athletes are about to do karate. Even if that was the case–where is all the green?
Guatemala
Guatemala’s uniform is certainly eye-catching. The colours of their flag are sky blue and white; so the bright green and blue colours are a surprising choice. The outfit basically looks like it was inspired by Peter Pan. At the same time, the look is also quite plain, clearly lacking the beautiful embroidery and long skirts that are part of traditional Guatemalan clothing. It’s a no from me.
Australia

Australia’s colours are quite bold, so clashing outfits are almost expected. All colours aside, the tennis dresses are trendy, shorts are cute and loungewear looks comfy. I want to say they did the best they could–but the skirts? There is just no excuse for these:

Spain
These uniforms show off Spain’s beautiful, bold red, yellow and white colours. The opening ceremony outfits are made of recycled fabric (and we love sustainability), but the look is uninteresting. The Spanish have an edge on the Aussies for somehow making that skirt look a lot better. Hope you’re taking notes, Australia.
Team USA
These outfits make Team USA look like the Barden Bellas from Pitch Perfect or a posse of race car drivers. An interesting look, but they’ll probably pull it off. The rest of their uniforms include cool pieces–some classy, some vintage. I do not, however, support their choice of font. I have mixed opinions on this one.
Italy
Believe it or not, Italy’s look for the opening ceremonies is a hoodie and sweatpants. Isn’t this one of the fashion capitals of the world? I guess it’s sort of classic and looks pretty comfortable, and the rest of their gear is tasteful. Even though they’re missing a lot of red, white and green, I like the display of athleticism. Brownie points because it’s Armani.
Haiti
The 12 athletes representing Haiti will capture a lot of attention when they walk into opening ceremonies in these beautiful outfits. The traditional trousers and skirts are covered in a vibrant design, straight from a painting by a Haitian artist. The look is purposely bold; serving as a powerful reminder of Haiti’s resiliance and hope.
The Netherlands
The Netherlands, without a doubt, bring home the award for looking the most chic. The denim outfits, vintage letterman jackets and colourful scarves are simple, unique and put-together. If you were going to say anything about the outfits not having enough orange, here’s their look for the opening ceremonies:
Mongolia
No corners were cut while creating Mongolia’s uniform. The elegant look is inspired by traditional Mongolian dresses, with the vests covered with beautiful, symbolic embroidery. The women’s outfits are embellished with beaded earrings and elaborate handbags. Reportedly, each outfit took 20 hours to fabricate.
Canada
This opinion may be biased, but you can’t deny that Team Canada set the bar the highest; sporting trendy streetwear for the ceremonies and in the Olympic village. The Lululemon gear did not miss–it’s fun, sporty and had a major emphasis on inclusivity and adaptability. Hidden within the patterns of the uniforms is Canada’s iconic maple leaf, or 10 animals representative of Canada’s nine provinces and of France.

Decked out head to toe in red and white, with a perfect combination of symbolism and style, all eyes will be on the Canadians when they walk into the room.
