ON Cloudsurfer Next Introduction
The ON Cloudsurfer Next was made to be a max cushioned shoe with top-of-the-line technology. Out of all the shoes I have used over the past year, I would say these have the most bells and whistles.
In a new updated presentation, they are built with the same CloudTec Phase cushioning as the Cloudsurfer.
On states that the new version, the Cloudsurfer Next, adds some new “race-inspired features.’ When learning of this, I thought how couldn’t this shoe be awesome? The Cloudsurfer is a fan favorite, plus adding some racing shoe technology must make this a hit. Compared to the main model, a lot has been changed to improve it.
Some of the technology includes the CloudTec Phase midsole that compresses in line to help create a nice smooth rolling feeling from your heel to your toe. On also includes their Helion super foam that adds to making your run feel effortless.
When talking about how On has made this shoe more of a race day shoe, you will have to check out the upper. They have modeled it after their top race day shoes.
They will cost $150.00 which may seem a little steep but when compared to other daily trainers, they are comparable. On always outdoes themselves with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. Just looking at them you can visibly see their worth.
Other quick facts about them include, they are lightweight, coming in at 9.6oz for the men’s and 7.93oz for the women’s. Even though they look a little unstable due to the thick midsole, you’ll be very pleased that they are very stable due to the 6mm heel-to-toe drop.
ON Cloudsurfer Next First Impressions
I have no doubt in my mind about if I’m going to visually like the way an On shoe looks. They just know how to design an aesthetically pleasing shoe. The Cloudsurfer Next is no exception. It gives off a max-cushioned vibe and does feel similar to one but leans more on the stiffer side.
I bought the all-white color which I do love, but just hate how quickly they attract dirt. The upper on the Cloudsurfer Next is fantastic but does look dirty very quickly.
They are a shoe that you don’t have to break in. The first run I took them out on was a 10-mile road run and they felt great. I had no major issues with comfort except for how I laced them. I laced them up a little too tight on my one foot and it caused some discomfort on the top of my foot. I adjusted how I tied them and I was ok.
My favorite lacing system an On shoe is from the Cloudstratus 3. No matter how I tie them they are always very pleasing to the top of my foot and are so comfy. That is another On shoe I would highly recommend.
They fit true to size. While most On shoes run on the narrower side, the Cloudsurfer Next is not narrow.
On offers them in a variety of neutral colors. Nothing over the top or crazy color schemes. I purchased the white/flame color and I was very pleased with how they looked.
ON Cloudsurfer Next Upper
The upper is superb. On has taken their technology from their race day shoes and added it to the Cloudsurfer Next. It’s awesome.
They are made from a highly light-engineered woven upper that gives you a flawless fit. Looking at them you will notice that there is very little stitching that makes them feel like there is nothing on your feet.
The heel counter is nicely built up with ample padding. I had no problems with rubbing or discomfort.
On has a way with one upping your typical standard laced shoe. On adds petite loops that run up both sides of the top of the foot.
When I would pull them to secure them for a run, I loved how they felt as they hugged my feet.
ON Cloudsurfer Next Sole Unit
The midsole is what you look at mostly with the On brand. This pair is no different. The cloud pods are their signature key focal point. As I stated before, the midsole has CloudTec Phase technology and combined it combined with the Helion superfoam.
This has been used in many of the newer On shoes and it allows you to experience the forward roll with some cushioning and lets you pick up speed. One of the things I noticed was the forefoot rocker design, it made my runs feel easier and allowed me to have a quicker turnover. They have been my go-to for faster run days.
The outsole is made of a durable rubber that covers the entire bottom of the shoe. There is one narrow strip that is missing, it runs up the middle of the shoe. This was done to help shave off some weight.
I took them out for many runs in the rain since we have had a lot of it lately and I had no problems with slipping. They did a nice job drying out promptly. I have some shoes, that once they are wet, stay wet for days.
ON Cloudsurfer Next Conclusions
The ON Cloudsurfer Next is a great choice for those who are looking for a daily trainer.
They work exceptionally well for faster mid-distance runs.
It has even been in my rotation for all my speed workouts. They are great upgrade and I highly recommend them!
