Three years ago, Cindy Lewis-Caballero and Sandie Orlando of Endurance Event Productions founded the Georgina Marathon with the aim of giving runners an opportunity to chase a Boston qualifying time during the pandemic. The race has seen great success, attracting more than 1,000 participants in 2024 to the southern shores of central Ontario’s Lake Simcoe. Building on this momentum, Lewis-Caballero and Orlando are adding a new half-marathon to their race portfolio in 2025: the Kawartha Sun Run in Ontario’s cottage country.
The inaugural Kawartha Sun Run is scheduled for Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Garnet Graham Beach Park in Fenelon Falls, Ont., two hours north of Toronto. Fenelon Falls, often referred to as the “Jewel of the Kawarthas,” has a population of 2,500, which significantly increases during the summer with the influx of cottagers from across Ontario.
This will be the fourth race for Endurance Event Productions, joining their existing events: the Georgina Marathon & Half-Marathon, the Georgina Spring Fling Marathon and the Nutrience Oakville 21.1 Half-Marathon. The Kawartha Sun Run route will follow the Victoria Rail Trail along Cameron Lake, promising a flat, fast, and scenic course in line with their other races.

Co-race director Lewis-Caballero voiced her excitement about bringing this new race to the Kawartha Lakes region: “Putting a half-marathon race in the Kawartha region was appealing,” she said. “We can offer runners east of the GTA, and further north, a family-friendly event that will also appeal to faster runners.”
The race will also serve a charitable cause: raising funds for the Kawartha Lakes Food Source, a non-profit distribution centre that supplies food and personal care items in the region. The community is enthusiastic the event will help boost the local economy.
