Please talk me out of doing this stupid thing…

I talked with my coach and told her how I was feeling, and she said to take the day off if needed! I woke up, got dressed to run after everyone was at school, and then decided I wanted a day off, so I took it!

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in training and look at each day to check off, but zooming out to see the big picture is so important. A bit of time off isn’t going to ruin our races, but going into the overtraining zone will… PS This list is something I always think about regarding overtraining. If you’re feeling these things below, it’s time to take a step back! I’m not in this zone currently but I want to make sure I don’t get here and take off any days here or there that I need to or pull back in intensity to avoid being here:

I went out with a friend for acai bowls and this one looked like a piece of art. It was almost too pretty to eat.

Fresh nails!

I asked Beck yesterday what he wanted to be when he grows up and he said, ‘a preschool teacher.’ I think it’s safe to say he absolutely loves it.

We have a cello player at our house now!

Trader Joe’s was the theme of dinner last night. I am obsessed with @TraderJoes5itemsorless and tried this Turkey & Vegetable Soyaki for dinner. The less ingredients needed, the more likely I am to make it;)

It was so easy and a crowd pleaser for everyone.

TJ’s mini sheet cakes are always shockingly good to me. I love them so much that I had the vanilla one for my birthday a few years ago and Knox said he wants this one for his birthday this year.

I didn’t realize it was gluten-free until I got home, but I was hoping that Pumpkin Pie Spice Bagels would be more enjoyable to eat than plain ones at 4 am before big efforts.

I’m going to try out something new on my long run… 94 grams of carbs in this guy! I’ll still use Maurten gels, too, but I want to experiment with more liquid calories. I’ll let you know what I think! We will do loops for our long run to practice grabbing bottles with these, which makes me feel like I’m Keira D’Amato;).

I know what I am thinking of doing is stupid so I was hoping you could talk me out of it. My plan was to get a pair of Alphaflys to do workouts in and experiment with to see if I would race in them and then get a new pair to race in (I know… I use every coupon I can find at the grocery store yet am willing to use our savings for shoes;)… Until I realized I pretty much got the last pair of Alphaflys on the planet in my size, so this is my one pair. I’ve jogged a bit around in them and LOVED them, so I’m considering just wearing them for a 3-mile workout before the race. I’ve read in reviews that they break down quickly, so I’m worried about wearing them a bunch before the race…

What do I do? What do you think the minimum amount of mileage should be that I wear these before race day?

Tell me your Friday night plans!

Tell me a bad racing decision you’ve made in the past?!?
