First things first: our recent visit to Ponte de Lima was all about immersing ourselves in the world of Loureiro wine.
The best way to do so is by attending the Loureiro de Ponte de Lima ConVida fair, an unforgettable weekend filled with wine, gastronomy, and entertainment that truly embodies the rich cultural heritage and hospitality of the Lima Valley.
Returning for its 5th edition from May 10th to 12th, 2024, the Loureiro de Ponte de Lima ConVida event offered an immersive experience celebrating Vinho Verde, with a special focus on the Loureiro grape.
Visitors indulged in wine tastings, showcookings, culinary delights, musical performances, exploring a few vineyards such as Vinhas da Igreja in classic cars, and other activities set against the picturesque backdrop of the Lima Valley.
In addition to the wine event, the Expolima hosted the prestigious 14th International Jumping Competition, showcasing world-class equestrian talent in Show Jumping.

Exploring Outdoor Adventures
Ponte de Lima’s breathtaking landscapes provided the perfect playground for outdoor enthusiasts like us.
We embarked on a scenic circular 10km guided hike along the Lima River, part of the Ecovia do Lima that included a tranquil river crossing in a traditional wooden boat, a delight for the senses!
Whether on foot or by bike, this scenic route takes you through the municipalities of Viana do Castelo, Ponte de Lima, Ponte da Barca, and Arcos de Valdevez, offering breathtaking views of the Lima River and stretching over 70km.
It’s also great for families with small kids like us!
On top of that, there are many other things outdoor fans will enjoy like cycling through lush forests and rolling hills, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
The town’s natural beauty was awe-inspiring, and we couldn’t get enough fresh air and stunning views.
Discovering Ponte de Lima’s Rich Heritage
As we wandered the historic streets of Ponte de Lima, we couldn’t help but be captivated by its rich history and vibrant culture.
The town’s medieval charm and picturesque landscapes provided the perfect backdrop for our adventure.
We explored ancient bridges, charming plazas, and vibrant markets, immersing ourselves in the local traditions and festivities that make Ponte de Lima truly special.
Immersing Ourselves in Local Culture
Ponte de Lima’s cultural scene was alive during our visit from traditional dances to classic car rallies. We joined in the festivities, soaking up the lively atmosphere and embracing the local traditions.
And with events like the international horse jump contest and antiques flea market adding to the excitement, Ponte de Lima did not offered us a dull moment.
Other captivating activities include exploring the town’s rich cultural heritage by visiting the Museum of the Promotion of Vinho Verde (CIPVV) and the Museum of Portuguese Toys, which offered fascinating insights into local traditions and history.
Furthermore, Ponte de Lima boasts lots of must-see attractions and historic landmarks such as the iconic Roman-Medieval Bridge spanning the Lima river, the lush Parque do Arnado, and the captivating International Gardens.
Nearby there’s a children’s park too.
It’s worth noting that Portuguese life unfolds at a leisurely pace.
To quickly adapt, we recommend taking a stroll through the charming Old Town, exploring the accessible section of the town’s medieval wall, and admiring the striking Tower of the Tourist Office.
Do not forget to unwind with an espresso or a glass of Loureiro wine at one of the many open-air terraces scattered across the old town.

From Porto, the most convenient option is to take a direct train or bus to Viana do Castelo, a neighboring city to Ponte de Lima, and then transfer to a local bus or taxi for the final leg of the journey.
Alternatively, travelers can opt for a scenic drive, following the A3 highway northward towards Valença and then taking the exit for Ponte de Lima.
From Lisbon, travelers can choose between a direct bus service or a train to Porto, followed by onward travel as mentioned above. Additionally, rental cars offer flexibility and convenience for exploring the charming towns and countryside along the way.
