In my role as Senior Account Executive on the Medicare Group Sales Team at Independence Blue Cross (IBX), I specialize in working with small businesses, i.e., places with between two and 50 employees…like pizza shops, small attorney’s offices, hair salons, and a local paper company. In addition to directly serving these clients, I also enjoy helping our insurance broker partners understand and promote the various retiree benefit options we offer their customers.
Many of my clients are “mom-and-pop” shops. I grew up in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, where businesses like this were a vital part of the community. So, my heart is with these small enterprises, and I love helping them offer IBX Medicare Advantage plans to their retirees.
Why Small Businesses Love IBX Medicare Advantage Plans
Operating a small business is hard. Every decision can have huge consequences.
My clients want to do right by their employees. When they’re looking for a group health plan for their retirees, they want it to come from a source that they trust — with comprehensive benefits, a large health care provider network, competitive pricing, and options for both medical and prescription drug coverage.
My clients recognize IBX as a uniquely Philadelphia institution that’s been taking care of people in our area for 85 years. In many cases, their employee health plans already come from IBX, so transitioning their retirees to an IBX group Medicare Advantage plan at retirement is seamless.
Our group Medicare plans offer rich benefits to assist with some things that Medicare doesn’t cover, at a reasonable cost. They include extra benefits like dental, health, and vision coverage; the ability to use Patina as a primary care provider; a free fitness membership through One PassTM; a variety of member discount programs; and so much more!
Why I Love My Job
I’ve been working at IBX for 25 years. I started in Customer Service, and I’ve worn a lot of different hats since then. There are many things that inspire me about my current job, and the biggest one is helping others.
I’ve always enjoyed working with people over the age of 65, whether I’m educating them on a new health plan or answering their questions about Medicare. And I have a great team of co-workers who make it a pleasure coming to work.
Why the Personal Touch Matters
At IBX we’re constantly evolving to meet our customers’ needs. Our sales team is very “hands-on” and visible out in the community, educating both our clients and our broker partners on what’s new, our plan options, and our pricing.
There was a motto when I was hired 25 years ago: “The customer is king.” I‘ve never forgotten that. It’s embedded in me. So it’s important to me to make a difference in some small way for my clients. And if I’m able to help them access affordable, high-quality health care with lots of extras that support whole-person health, that makes me feel like I am being a responsible steward for the client and the company.
