Robbery suspect hurt in shootout with Lucena cops

LUCENA CITY — A robbery suspect was wounded in an armed encounter with police after he held up a convenience store in this city shortly before midnight on Wednesday, May 1.

In a report on Thursday, May 2, the Quezon police said “John,” 25, armed with a handgun attacked around 11:30 p.m. the Alfamart minimart branch in Barangay Ibabang Dupay.

The frightened crew handed John the sales collection amounting to P34,398. The robber escaped aboard a motorcycle.

The police, after being alerted by the store crew, conducted a hot-pursuit operation.

When the cops caught the escaping robber in another part of the village, they were met with gunfire which prompted them to retaliate.

John, a resident of Mulanay town in the province, was hit on his right leg, which led to his arrest.

Recovered from the suspect was one caliber .9mm pistol loaded with 15 bullets, another spare magazine with 14 bullets and the stolen cash. The police also seized his motorcycle.

After John’s treatment, he was placed under police custody and is facing criminal charges.
