Tickets for Amtrak’s Auto Train are on sale for as little as $75, making it easier to travel up and down the East Coast without the burden of traffic snags.
The sale, which is available to book through July 31, is available for travel from now through Sept. 2, Amtrak shared with Travel + Leisure. Additionally, kids 2 to 12 years old ride free when accompanying an adult on the same reservation.
Tickets for the sale, which is available for both coach and first class private rooms, start at just $75, plus the cost of a vehicle. The sale is valid on travel in both ways between Lorton, Virginia, and Sanford, Florida.
A three-day advance purchase is required. To book, travelers must use the promo code “C521.”
The Auto Train operates nonstop between Virginia and Florida and takes about 17 and a half hours to make the full journey.
Travelers must purchase a ticket as well as pay extra for their vehicle, which can include cars, vans, and motorcycles. The cost of a vehicle varies by the type. Travelers can also purchase priority vehicle offloading with their tickets.
On board, passengers receive a complimentary continental breakfast before arrival in coach, while travelers in private Roomettes or bedrooms are treated to complimentary meals, priority boarding, and a dedicated first class attendant. Each private bedroom features an in-room sink, restroom, and shower.
Last year, Amtrak changed its fare structure, introducing two new fare options of “value” and “flex” and eliminating the previous options of “saver,” “value,” and “flexible” fares. Both of these new fare options are available on the Auto Train.
Beyond the Auto Train, Amtrak is expanding service between St. Paul, MN, and Chicago this summer and planning on bringing back and expanding its popular seasonal Berkshire Flyer train between New York City and the Berkshires.
