What was your motivation? After my divorce, I picked up some really bad eating habits. You could catch me in McDonald’s drive-thru at least three days a week or eating moon pies and full-course meals around 9 pm at night.
I went to a doctor’s visit, and when the doctor told me I was over 200 pounds, I almost fell slam out! Everyone told me I looked good. However, I did not FEEL good. I wanted to feel better in the mornings and during the day. I was tired of feeling fatigued, and tired of being tired and feeling tired.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up? I knew a healthier lifestyle would transform me physically, mentally, and emotionally…and it did! My family has a history of diabetes and hypertension, and I was (and still am) determined to break that cycle and make myself and my family proud. I am so grateful!
How did you change your eating habits? I stopped frying foods, so my meats were either baked or cooked in the Crockpot. I incorporated more greens into my diet and cooked brown rice instead of white. I cook everything in olive oil. I see a nutritionist every six weeks, and my insurance pays for 12 visits yearly. I do not restrict myself from any foods that I like. I still love a juicy ribeye once or twice a month!
What is your workout routine? I pull up Leslie Sansone on YouTube and walk four days a week in my living room. I occasionally walk 3 miles on Saturdays and rest on Sundays.
What was your starting weight? 210 pounds. I am now 179 pounds.
What is your height? 5 feet, 7 inches tall.
When did you start your journey? March 2023
How long did your transformation take? One year.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I did not do weight loss surgery. However, it’s a blessing that’s an option for those that need that extra push!
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I have to give myself the same grace God gives me, and it is okay to fall off…as long as I pick myself up. That’s what really matters and what makes me human. I also know that I can achieve anything. With God, anything is possible! Whew, God is GOOD, y’all!
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?/
Have tunnel vision during your weight loss journey, and block out anything and anyone that will deter you from your goals. Do not give up. I repeat, do NOT give up!!! Keep going, and if you mess up, PLEASE give yourself grace and start back over.
