The GT-2000 is one of Asics’ most loved shoes. It’s a stalwart in their stability category, and for good reason. The 12th iteration of the GT got a big makeover, and it was so well received that the brand made some small tweaks for the 13, but kept all of the additions that runners loved so much in the previous iteration.

Upper
The upper is where all of the change happens in the newest GT-2000. It maintains its sleek look with the addition of a one-piece mesh upper. This lightweight, breathable material is incredibly comfortable and holds your foot well without feeling restrictive. On my first wear, I took this shoe for a 10K run, and was thrilled at the feel of the upper.
Midsole
The midsole uses a three-pronged approach. First, you have the 3D Guidance system, which is what puts this shoe in the stability category. This system is a new take on stability, because while the shoe provides additional support, the support moves with your foot as opposed to forcing your foot into one (potentially sub-optimal) position. Think of it as guard rails for your foot, as opposed to a single-track path.
The remainder of the midsole has Asics’ beloved PureGel under the heel and FF Blast Plus throughout the rest. I find the GT-2000 to have a firmer ride and a more responsive feel.
Outsole
The outsole is Asics’ AHAR rubber, which provides excellent traction without adding too much additional weight–just the sweet spot you want.
Final thoughts
Wear this shoe for your 5Ks or 10Ks. Wear it to the gym, and even take it on a long run. If you’re a runner who requires a little more support, this is an excellent general trainer, perfect for running (or any kind of movement). If you’re looking to take your running up a notch, consider using the GT-2000 13 as your everyday trainer and pairing it with a more specialized shoe, such as the Metaspeed series or the Superblast, which are designed for racing.
