The current Srinagar Leh Highway status is CLOSED. The road was declared closed after heavy snowfall at Zojila in October and November. For now, you cannot travel between Srinagar and Leh by road until May next year. The road may get open in early April, depending on the weather, but to be on the safer side, you should only plan your trip either in late April or early May at the earliest.
After the road opens, in the early days, the traffic is controlled and allowed from one side only on alternate days. What it means is that if the traffic was allowed from Sonamarg on Monday, vehicles from Kargil will be allowed on Tuesday. Then Sonamarg on Wednesday, Kargil on Thursday, and so on. Zojila Pass remains closed on Fridays for maintenance work.

Srinagar Leh Highway in October
The status of the Srinagar Leh highway in October remains open. But a trip in the latter part of the month is never a good idea. It can snow anytime at Zoji La in October.
Though the road may remain open, it can temporarily be closed for a few days. The risk of driving on slippery stretches, of course, will remain in October.
Srinagar Leh Highway in April
Srinagar to Leh road status in April will entirely depend on how much it snowed and how fast BRO was able to clear the snow. Historically though, the road remains closed in the first part of the month and is only open after the 20th.
My advice would be to wait for the weather updates before finalizing your itinerary. Traveling in the first or second week of May will be a much better idea than in April.

Srinagar to Leh road condition in May is much better and stabilized as compared to April. It is among the best months to be traveling on the Srinagar to Leh road route. The weather will be pleasant and you will also get to see plenty of snow as well which is mostly all gone by May end.

Srinagar Leh road’s current status in June is completely open and safe to travel on. This is the peak tourist season in Kashmir and Ladakh and another good month to be on the route.

Both these months are the time of the monsoon season. Though it does not rain in Ladakh so much, it surely does in the Kashmir area. Floods, landslides, and incessant rains are normal occurrences in both these months.
