Attention Toronto runners: your local running community is about to get a lot more competitive. The American fast-food chain Chipotle Mexican Grill has teamed up with Strava to launch an epic challenge for runners. If you can become a Local Legend on a designated Strava segment, you have the chance to win free Chipotle for a year. Yes, you read that right—a whole year of Chipotle could be yours.
Chipotle spilled the beans in a recent study, revealing that nearly seven out of 10 consumers are runners who make Chipotle their go-to post-training treat. In collaboration with Strava, they’ve rolled out “Chipotle segments” in 22 cities across North America, now including Toronto. From Jan. 2 to 31, runners in Toronto can compete for the Local Legend (LCL) title on a special Strava segment located at 123 Front St. W. (named Chipotle Toronto Segment). To get the chance to earn free Chipotle for the year, you must run the 320-metre segment more times than anyone else during those 30 days. Note that this challenge isn’t a race, and it isn’t about speed—it’s about consistency and dedication.
The runner who traverses the segment the most by the end of the month will receive free Chipotle for an entire year, but there are more prizes to be won. Chipotle segments are also live in 24 other cities across North America and Europe. Each participating city will compete to log the highest mileage collectively, with the winning city scoring a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) entrée deal for all residents. The cities’ progress will be tracked on the“Chipotle x Strava: The City Challenge” heatmap, a leaderboard showing daily updates of each city’s progress and performance.
Not based in Toronto or any of the other 24 cities? No problem. Chipotle is rolling out the “No Quitters Challenge” on Strava, starting Jan. 10. Those who sign up for the challenge will be texted instructions to get one of 50,000 free Lifestyle Bowls.
You can see the official rules at: www.chipotle.com/city-challenge-rules for additional eligibility restrictions, entry periods, segment details, prize descriptions/restrictions, and complete details. The “Free Chipotle for a Year” prize is awarded as 52 Chipotle Rewards credits valid for one entrée.
Whether you’re chasing free burritos or simply looking for extra motivation to hit the pavement in 2025, head to Strava, find the Chipotle segment and start logging those kilometres.
