On Monday evening in front of Toronto’s historic Union Station, Canada Running Series unveiled the highly anticipated 2024 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon medal, commemorating the 35th anniversary of the race. This year’s medal pays homage to Union Station, which has been a symbol of Toronto’s community since its opening in 1927.
The nod to Union Station highlights its significance as a cornerstone of Toronto’s community and rich history. The medal also features Toronto’s “Monument to Multiculturalism,” a sculpture at the front of the station representing the city’s diverse and inclusive ethos.
Charlotte Brookes, race director for the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, emphasized the connection between the marathon and Canada’s largest railway station. “The TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon is not just a race; it’s a celebration of our city’s spirit and resilience,” said Brookes. “Union Station is a cornerstone of Toronto’s history and activity, and with the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon being such a standout weekend in the city, we wanted to encapsulate the energy and essence of the city in our 2024 design.”
Each year, the Toronto Waterfront Marathon brings more than 100,000 runners and visitors into the city, with Union Station serving as a hub connecting Toronto to the rest of Canada. Participants traditionally pass the station during the race, making it a familiar and anticipated landmark on the course. Last year, the event sold out, drawing more than 25,000 participants from around the world across the three race distances. For the first time this year, the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon 5K race will take place on Saturday morning (as opposed to Sunday morning, before the marathon).
The 2024 marathon weekend, scheduled for October 19-20, promises to be a vibrant celebration of Toronto’s community spirit. For more information and registration details, visit the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon website.
