A group of friends and I went to Veritas Winery’s latest Supper Series Dinner: The French Cafe. Here’s the recap!
Veritas: The French Cafe Supper Series Dinner
This is the second year that Veritas has held its Supper Series dinners. Almost every month there is a themed dinner with multiple courses and wine pairings presented by a talented chef. (You might recall the Hip Hop themed Supper Series Thomas and I went to in May!) Going to a themed dinner is one of my all-time favorite activities, so I was honored to blog about this experience again.
The theme in July was the French cafe. Dinner was served out on the patio under string lights – we were transported to Paris from the menu to the jazz band. And we got lucky with PERFECT weather for outdoor dining!
Late July also happens to be our friend Sean’s birthday, and he is a huge Francophile! So this was the perfect occasion to celebrate. We dressed in French florals and surprised him the day of with our plans.

Welcome: Oysters and Vermouth
In addition to a welcome cocktail made with Flying Fox Summer Vermouth and Smoke in the Chimney’s Carbonated Water, there was the most beautiful oyster display clouded by dry ice!
Canapes
We also enjoyed Sparkling Rosé with a couple of passed canapes – including watermelon, basil, and my favorite blue cheese: Bleu D’Auvergne.
Merriment
Of course we captured lots of photos while we enjoyed the hors d’oeuvres!
Seated Dinner
The chef du jour was Adam Bean who is on the team at Veritas. I thought his dishes were fantastic (especially the dessert course – wait for it!) We were welcomed with remarks by Chef Bean and Winemaker Emily Hodson.
Paying attention : )
The wine pairings were perfection!

Le Menu
First Course
Summer Tomato “Vol Au Vent” with royal red shrimp and frisee paired with the 2023 Cabernet Franc.
Bread Course
Naturally! The honey butter was incredible.
Second Course
Mussels in Viognier and Saffron Cream with Charred Fennel.
Plus Hanger Steak and Frites
And the most delicious corn dish made with Vadouvan Curry and Chanterelles. Paired with the 2022 Petit Verdot that was my favorite wine of the night!
The ambiance under the lights all evening was magical! We listened to music by the French bistro jazz band Les Zazous.
Dessert Course
I LOVED the creativity in this course. We thought those shavings were some kind of sweet chocolate but they were actually CHEESE! 18 month comté cheese served over honey ice cream. What a unique and delicious combination! The dessert wine paired was a Petit Manseng.

There are three more Supper Series dinners in 2024 in August, Sept, and October. Check them out here and get tickets!
