This Is the No. 1 Wellness Destination in the World

If 2024 was tough for you — be it too much work, family drama, or just not enough “you” time — then it’s key to start planning a getaway to revive your senses. And luckily, according to a new report by Book Retreats, you may not have to go far to find it.

In December, Book Retreats shared its Holiday Relaxation Report, which ranked the best relaxation destinations around the world, including a sub-list on the top spots for wellness.

To determine its rankings for all of its lists, the team first decided on 76 starting destinations, which it selected based on their “safety, solitude, serenity, nature, and wellness.” Book Retreats then ranked those selections using nine data points, including the percentage of protected area, forest coverage, crowd density, noise and light pollution, peacefulness, and total wellness experiences. Finally, it gave each destination a score of 1 to 100 to reveal the top spots for relaxation, solitude, nature, safety, and perhaps most importantly, wellness. And after looking into each country, it named the United States the top spot for its wellness list.

“The United States dominates the global wellness scene with over 10,000 experiences for visitors seeking restoration and rejuvenation in 2025,” Book Retreats shared. “The country’s diverse landscapes create distinct wellness experiences: thermal springs wind through the Colorado River region, wellness centers nestle in Utah’s red rock country, and beach retreats dot shorelines.”

Truly, there’s a spot for everyone in the U.S. to indulge in a wellness activity. Just look at Travel + Leisure‘s list of 15 spectacular wellness destinations punctuating the U.S. landscape, including Castle Hot Springs in Arizona, the  Carillon Miami, and the Sensei Lanai in Hawaii, to name a few.

Joining the U.S. at the top of the wellness list is Japan, which came in second thanks to its high number of onsens and its vast wild spaces, followed by the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Australia, India, Spain, and Germany rounding out the top 10.

As for the overall most relaxing destination in the world, that honor went to Australia, where Book Retreats found 4,700 wellness experiences. Here, “travelers can unwind in thermal springs near Melbourne, practice yoga on empty Tasmanian beaches, or retreat to luxury eco-lodges in the quiet of the Outback.” Still, we think the wellness experiences are just as fantastic in the gold ol’ U.S. of A.
