Tour de France 2024 Round-Up: The 2024 Tour de France was maybe predictable, but it wasn’t boring and kept us on the edge of our seats. Like the Giro d’Italia, we expected Tadej Pogačar to win, but there was also Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel and up to his crash, Primoz Roglič to consider. In the end the Slovenian won six stages and the overall. A historic Tour de France and one we will remember. Here are all the stages, just in case you missed anything.

The teams presentation
Stage 1: Bardet Bags Yellow!
A Frenchman takes the first stage and yellow jersey of the 2024 Tour de France in Italy. The dsm-firmenich-PostNL team played their tactics perfectly on stage 1. The Dutch team sent young Frank van den Broek in the break and then Romain Bardet crossed to him and they held off the bunch to the finish in Rimini. He also took the yellow jersey.

Stage 2: Vauquelin Victor In Bologna – Pogačar Pounces On Yellow!
Stage 2 was another hot day in Italy for the 2024 Tour de France. A Frenchman took the stage honours again, this it was Kevin Vauquelin of Arkéa-B&B Hotels. There was action behind the winner as Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) attacked on the final climb to San Luca and was followed by Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike). Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) managed to join them as the Slovenian went into the overall lead.
Stage 2 highlights
Stage 3: Tour First For Girmay!
Stage 3 was always going to be a day for the sprinters, and the fast-finishers didn’t disappoint with an exciting final kilometre. In crash riddled last kilometres, the sprinters battled it out in the last metres with Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) hitting the front a little too early allowing Fernando Gaviria (Movistar), Arnaud De Lie (Lotto Dstny) and Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) to squeeze past him for the Eritrean to win his first Tour stage. Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) finished ahead of Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) to take the yellow jersey.
Stage 3 highlights
Stage 4: Tadej In The Tour Driving Seat!
On the first proper mountain stage the top men showed what they had. On the final climb, the UAE Team Emirates set the race on fire. Then Tadej Pogačar made his move before the summit. At the top he had 10 seconds on Jonas Vingegaard and 15 on Remco Evenepoel, Primoz Roglič was just behind. The yellow jersey of Richard Carapaz was over 3 minutes down. At the finish in Valloire, after the long descent, the Slovenian had 35 seconds on a chase group including Vingegaard, Roglič, Evenepoel, Ayuso and Rodriguez. Stage, yellow and a buffer of 45 seconds and more on all the other favourites.
Stage 4 highlights
Stage 5: Bravo! Cavendish Takes His 35th Tour Stage Victory!
Mark Cavendish made history in today’s stage 5 of the 2024 Tour de France. His name will be in the record books for a long time with thirty-five Tour de France stage wins, one more than the Great Eddy Merckx. He beat Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Alexander Kristoff (Uno-X Mobility) into second and third places. The overall is unchanged.
Stage 5 highlights
Stage 6: Groenewegen As Hot As Mustard In Dijon!
On a transition day that not much happened, stage 6 came down to a fast, straight sprint into Dijon. Netherland road champion, Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco AlUla) had the fastest finish and beat Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) by only centimetres. Green jersey, Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) was third. The overall stayed the same. *** Philipsen was declassed after the stage.***
Highlight of stage 6
Stage 7: Evenepoel Beats The Clock – Pogačar Still In Control!
Stage 7 was a big test for the top men, 25.3 kilometres against the clock with a slight climb. Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) took the stage honours, beating the yellow jersey, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) by 12 seconds. But the Slovenian extended his lead on all the others.
Stage 7
Stage 8: Girmay Grabs His Second!
Stage 8 was a transition stage, i.e. nothing much happened. The KOM, Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility) went on a long solo ride, collecting as many mountain point as he could. The brave, young Norwegian was caught with 14.4 kilometres to go and the finale could start. The finish was slightly up hill, which was perfect for the green jersey, Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty). The Eritrean took his second stage win ahead of Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), who managed to sprint in a straight line, and Arnaud De Lie (Lotto Dstny). The overall was unchanged.
Stage 8 highlights
Stage 9: Turgis Triumphs In The Troyes Gravel!
Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies) won a very hard gravel stage 9 around Troyes. He out-sprinted a successful break ahead of Tom Pidcock (INEOS Grenadiers) and Derek Gee (Israel-Premier Tech). There was a big battle between the GC favourites, but in the end they all finished together. Rest day tomorrow.

Week #2 Route Preview: Transfer Or Decisive?
As the dust settles on the first nine stages of the 2024 Tour de France and the gravel roads of Troyes, we still have Tadej Pogačar in yellow and the other ‘Top Three’: Remco Evenepoel, Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglič waiting in the wings. Here we look at the next six stages of week two.
The first week highlights
Stage 10: Philipsen Takes The Win Without Problems!
Rest day No.1 part 2. After Monday’s ‘day off’ for the peloton, the Tour riders thought they would have an easy ride on stage 10. It was always going to be s sprinter’s stage, but nobody tried to make a break into the head-wind. Alpecin-Deceuninck took control of the sprint and after World champion, Mathieu van der Poel gave Jasper Philipsen a perfect lead-out, the Belgian won by a bike length. Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) was second, Pascal Ackermann (Israel-Premier Tech) third and Wout Van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike) took fourth. There was no change on the GC.
Stage 10 best bits
Stage 11: The BIG Four Battle In The Hills!
After stage 10, stage 11 more than made up for the previous day’s dullness. UAE Team Emirates had a plan and yellow jersey, Tadej Pogačar attacked on the climb of Puy Mary. The other favourites had to let him go, but Jonas Vingegaard crosses to the Slovenian and the pair sprinted for the stage win. The stage win went to the Dane, while behind, Primoz Roglič crashed and Remco Evenepoel took third place.
Stage 11 highlights
Stage 12: Bini Bags His Triple!
The green jersey, Biniam Girmay won his third Tour de France stage in a crazy uphill final. A big crash disrupted the at just over 10 kilometres from the finish, but Girmay’s Intermarché-Wanty teammates piloted the Eritrean perfectly for him to unleash his final jump. Wout Van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike) was second and Arnaud Démare (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) third (later declassed). Primoz Roglič (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) lost 2 minutes and dropped to 6th place as he was caught in the big crash.
Highlights stage 12
Stage 13: Philipsen Pounces In Pau!
Stage 13 was a sprinter’s stage, but a very hard one with short, tough climbs on the run-in to the finish. The main problem was the wind that caused echelons and many splits and then there had to be a crash as the sprint got going. Biniam Girmay had his Intermarché-Wanty men on the front, but it was Jasper Philipsen’s day just ahead of Wout van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike) and Pascal Ackermann (Israel-Premier Tech). The GC didn’t change, apart from Primoz Roglič not starting.
Stage 13 highlights
Stage 14: Pogačar Plunders Pla D’Adet!
Tour de France Stage Report: On the first day in the Pyrenees, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) strengthened his hold on the yellow jersey by attacking on the final climb of the Pla d’Adet to take time on all his adversaries. Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike) finished second at 39 seconds, but he passed Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) on the overall.
Stage 14 highlights
Stage 15: Pogačar Unstoppable On The Plateau De Beille!
On the final climb of the day to Plateau de Beille, the two main protagonists of the 2024 Tour de France were together – Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike) were well ahead of Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step). The yellow jersey didn’t attack, but rode away from the Dane with around 5 kilometres to go. Another solo stage win for Pogačar and another minute on Vingegaard, over two minutes on Evenepoel and no one else matters.
Stage 15 highlights
Week #3 Route Preview: The BIG Finale!
Tadej Pogačar goes into the third week of the 2024 Tour de France with a lead of 3:09 over Jonas Vingegaard and 5:19 on Remco Evenepoel, so is that the Tour over? No, it’s not done till the last finish line on Avenue Jean Médecin in Nice. Vingegaard has said he is hoping for the Slovenian to have a bad day, like in the past and Evenepoel is banking on the final time trial, well, he is TT World champion. Until that Brobdingnagian sings, it’s not over. Here we look at the road from Gruissan to Nice:
The second week highlights
Stage 16: Jasper Jumps To His Third Stage Win!
Tour de France Stage Report: No disaster for Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) on stage 16 as he was piloted perfectly to his third stage win of this Tour. The same can’t be said of points leader, Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty), who crashed on the run-in to the sprint. Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) was second and Alexander Kristoff (Uno-X Mobility), who won here 10 years ago, was third. All the GC men finished with the peloton ahead of the next hard stages.
Stage 16 highlights
Stage 17: Carapaz Grabs Stage As Evenepoel Takes GC Time!
Stage 17 was a race on two fronts. The break (eventually) took an 8 minute lead and it was Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) and Simon Yates (Jayco AlUla) who fought it out for the stage honours. The Ecuadorian attacked with 13 kilometres to go of the final climb for stage victory. Yates was second and Enric Mas (Movistar) third. Overall leader, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) jumped away from the GC group and was joined by Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step). But the Young Belgian dropped them to take some time back.
Stage 17 highlights
Stage 18: A Cunning Victory By Victor Campenaerts!
Tour de France Stage Report: Stage 18 was made for a big break day and we were not disappointed as the peloton let the escape take 15 minutes. From the break, Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny), Michal Kwiatkowski (INEOS Grenadiers) and Mattéo Vercher (TotalEnergies) held the chasers off to fight for the stage honours. Campenaerts was the fastest finisher ahead of Vercher and Kwiatkowski. There was no change on the GC.
Stage 18 highlights
Stage 19: Pogacar Annihilates The Tour!
Tadej Pogačar… What can you say? With a nice lead and two hard stages and the final time trial on the menu, the yellow jersey, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) could just sit back and watch the others, but that wouldn’t the way of the Slovenian. On the final climb to Isola 2000, Pogačar attacked the other favourites, chased down the few riders ahead of him and won the stage and added to his lead. Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) are now at 5:03 and 7:01.
Stage 19 highlights
Stage 20: Pogačar Puts The Cherry On The Cake!
Another day, another Tour stage win for Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates). As if we didn’t need more confirmation, the Slovenian won the penultimate stage of the 2024 Tour de France. Pogačar didn’t attack and his team wasn’t in control all day, but the yellow jersey followed all the moves and out-sprinted Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike) at the finish. Time trial win tomorrow?
Stage 20 highlights
Final Stage 21: Total Tadej!
Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) said he would enjoy the final time trial stage to Nice from his home town of Monaco, but he celebrated in the best possible way by winning the stage and by 1 minute over Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike). Expected stage winner, Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), was third at 11 seconds to the Dane. Obviously Pogačar has won the 2024 Tour de France.
