Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler were two of the biggest names to miss the cut at The Memorial Tournament.
Neither played well at Jack’s Place, but it did give them a head start on their U.S. Open preparations.
Both guys were at Pinehurst on Sunday playing golf, per a follower who sent the video to the Rickie Fowler Tracker on X. It appeared they played a full 18 holes.
Neither Fowler nor Spieth has played very well in 2024. Spieth has three Top 10s and three Top 25s. He has made nine cuts in 14 events.
Since his T10 finish at the Valero Texas Open, Speith has finished in the following order: MC, T39, MC, T29, T43, T37, and MC.
He missed the cut at the Masters and CJ Cup Byron Nelson. In his last three U.S. Opens, Speith’s best finish came in 2022, when he was T37—he missed the cut in 2021 and 2023.
The last time the USGA held the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, though, Spieth was T17.
As for Fowler, many thought he was on the rise after finally ending his win drought in 2023. He has one Top 25 in 2024.
In the year’s first two majors, Fowler went T30 at Augusta National and T63 in the PGA Championship.
This week’s missed cut was his first since the first week of April at the Valero Texas Open.
Last year, Fowler was T5 at Los Angeles Country Club for the U.S. Open. He also finished T2 at Pinehurst in 2014.
While they were sent home from Ohio, an early start at Pinehurst could help them get back on track for the third major of the year.
