Have you ever eaten at PF Chang’s?
I must note that their gluten free lettuce wrap version is different from their usual vegetarian lettuce wraps that are standard on the menu. The GF version is made with chunks marinated tofu instead of some other plant-based base.

Lettuce wraps are tasty and fun to eat and serving lettuce wraps is an interactive way to enjoy a meal while saving on calories and carbs. The crisp, cool lettuce acts as a crunchy base, offering a refreshing contrast to the savory plant-based filling. This makes it a great option for those looking to lighten up their meals and add more fiber without sacrificing flavor. They work great as an appetizer at a dinner party or as part of a light meal.
Just another way to incorporate more plant-based meals into your diet!
My tofu filling recipe:
The Hoisin sauce that I bought (at Whole Foods) is also gluten-free, as is the Tamari sauce. The Hoisin sauce is optional as a topping |
Ingredients:
1 block of extra firm tofu, diced into small pieces
1/2 cup of Tamari sauce ( or more)
1/4 cup of freshly grated ginger
1 cup of scallions, sliced
1/2 cup of vegetable broth
1 cup of cabbage cole slaw (from a bag)
garlic powder
optional: Hoisin Sauce for a topping
Directions:
Dice the block of tofu into small pieces
Pour Tamari sauce over the tofu
Set aside
In a large rimmed skillet add vegetable broth and grated ginger. Turn on the heat, add the tofu that has been doused with Tamari sauce, garlic powder, the cabbage slaw, and the scallions. Allow to cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring to prevent sticking and burning. Add a little more broth if needed.
Taste and season with salt and freshly cracked pepper ( or red pepper flakes) to taste.
Use lettuce leaves, add filling, and enjoy!
My notes:
- This recipe is oil-free, gluten-free, and vegan.
- You can make the filling in advance
- The filling can be served at room temp and each person fill his/her own
- Top with gluten-free Hoisin sauce for extra flavor
- Enjoy as an appetizer or as an entree with a bowl of soup
